Misconceptions about exercise can sabotage your efforts to get healthy and fit

Myth: The more you sweat during exercise the more fat you lose.

Fact: The harder the workout, the more calories you burn off with in a given time and thus the more fat you stand to lose. But how much you sweat does not necessarily reflect how hard your are exercising. Some people tend to sweat more due to body weight and poor conditioning or heridity. Exercising in hot weather or in plastic suits will make you sweat but the lost weight is entirely water and the weight will be replenished by drinking water after your workout.

 

Myth: Strength training won't help you get thinner, since it actually undermines your efforts to lose weight.

Fact: Strength training, using weights, machines, or elastic bands, can increase the number of calories you burn. In a study, three months of training boosted the average calorie-burning rate by an average of 7 % & burned off 4 % fat & added nearly that much muscle. With a balanced comprehensive work-out which burns lots of calories and in combination with low calorie diet (forget crash diets) you will lose more weight than depending on the dieting alone and will tone and regain muscle.
